A high-quality and elegant wooden kimono’ishô’dansu 着物衣装箪笥 (kimono storage cabinet) in two sections. Fully restored, cleaned, and waxed in Japan. Crafted from indigenous kiri (paulownia) wood and finished in a sought-after warm brown hue, a colour we like to call ‘golden oak’. The front edges are veneered with precious kurogaki (Japanese black persimmon), displaying a striking dark, cloud-like grain in contrast to the lighter body. The upper section is fitted with three full-width drawers, and the lower section with two. The drawers are adorned with ornate reticulated lock plates shaped as flowers, paired with kushi-shaped handles set flush within recessed, cushion-shaped backplates. A refined detail is the addition of reticulated side grips on the drawers, allowing them to be lifted out easily. The sides are fitted with retractable pole-carrying handles, enabling transport and securing the upper section in place. Period: Japan – Taishô period (1912-1926).
