Oribe 花瓶 — 大胆绿色釉,Designated Intangible 设计 - 石器 - 林正太郎 Hayashi Shotaro(1947– ) - 日本 - 1900–2000

Item Description: 林正太郎 Hayashi Shotaro(1947– ) — Oribe Hanaike (Oribe Ware Flower Vase) A bold and striking flower vase (hanaike) in Oribe ware (Oribe-yaki), bearing the impressed seal Shō (正) on the base, by Hayashi Shotaro — one of the most acclaimed and decorated ceramicists in contemporary Mino, and a designated holder of the Gifu Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property in Shino ware. Standing 25 cm tall with a generous rounded body (diameter 19 cm) and a wide open mouth (diameter 10 cm), this piece commands immediate attention. The deep, lustrous Oribe glaze — in the vivid copper-green for which Momoyama-era Oribe ware is celebrated — coats the surface with characteristic vigour, punctuated by areas of warm iron-brown clay exposed beneath, creating the dynamic interplay of colour and texture that defines the finest Oribe tradition. Though Hayashi is best known for his mastery of Shino, his Oribe works share the same hallmarks: powerful, unrestrained form, a deeply physical engagement with the clay, and a refusal to be bound by convention. The wide mouth makes this an ideal vase for bold, free-style floral arrangements, while the piece stands equally well as a sculptural object in its own right. The base bears the impressed seal Shō (正), Hayashi's personal mark. No wooden storage box is included. Size Height: 25 cm Width: 19 cm Mouth diameter: 10 cm Condition The piece is in good overall condition with no notable cracks, chips, or damage; minor surface wear and light scratching consistent with prior use may be present. Artist Profile 林正太郎 Hayashi Shotaro (1947– ) was born in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture, into a family of ceramicists. After training under his elder brother Kotaro from 1967, he established his independence in 1974. His achievements in the Mino ceramic world are unparalleled: he is the first and only artist to have won all three major prizes at the Mino Ceramics Exhibition — the Mino Ceramics Grand Prize (1994), the Kato Kobeigama Prize (1993), and the Shōroku Prize (1997). He was designated a holder of the Intangible Cultural Property of Toki City in 2002, and subsequently designated holder of the Gifu Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property for Shino ware in 2012. While Shino is his primary field, Hayashi also works with Oribe, Kizeto (Yellow Seto), Tenmoku, and his original Man'yōsai technique — each executed with the same bold, expressive energy that characterises all his work. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally.
