Elegant early 20th century silver-plated knife rest / cutlery holder by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), Germany. The piece is stamped OX, with the WMF hallmark and production code I/O.
The design combines a refined laurel garland motif with geometric elements, typical of the transition from late Jugendstil to early Art Deco. Originally intended for fruit knives and dessert knives, it is also a decorative collector’s object for a period table setting.
