一个木质雕塑 - Aklama - 迦納 (沒有保留價)

An Aklama Kalao bird, Southern Ghana, of the Adan (Ada/Dangme) people, with natural pigments of kaolin; signs of ritual use and age. This carved wooden bird figure, known in collectors’ literature as an Aklama, originates from the Adan (Ada/Dangme) cultural zone of southern Ghana, within the broader Ewe–Dangme region. Such figures were used in private ritual contexts, typically kept on household altars and occasionally grouped and concealed, indicating restricted access and controlled activation. Comparable in function to Ewe vinavi figures, Aklama carvings are understood as intermediary or helper spirits, valued for ritual efficacy rather than representational accuracy. The stylized avian form is closely associated with the hornbill (Kalao), an animal of ancestral and cosmological significance among Dangme-speaking communities. The hornbill’s observed behavior—particularly the female’s ritualized self-seclusion during nesting—has informed symbolic associations with fertility, protection, withdrawal, and transformation. Within this framework, the figure operates as an operative ritual object, mediating between human, ancestral, and spiritual domains. Like many objects from this region, the Aklama figure entered museum and private collections through early 20th-century circulation, often without detailed contextual documentation. Its significance lies not in individual authorship or iconographic specificity but in its role as a material condensation of ritual practice, ecological knowledge, and moral order within Adan religious life.
