Ancient Zoomorphic Stone Amulet – Coiled Serpent Form
Eastern Mediterranean / Near Eastern, Iron Age
A finely carved ancient stone amulet depicting a stylized coiled serpent, executed in low relief with a central perforation. The spiral body terminates in a small naturalistic head with incised eye — a design characteristic of protective apotropaic pendants widely worn in Late Antiquity across the Levant and Eastern Mediterranean.
Serpent amulets were especially associated with:
healing and protection
warding off the evil eye
regeneration and immortality
chthonic deities and household guardians
Material identification
The stone appears to be a dark steatite / chlorite schist (soapstone):
soft workable stone
matte ancient wear surface
granular mineral inclusions
Condition
Very good archaeological condition.
Intact perforation
Stable ancient surface
Natural burial wear
Mineral encrustations inside carving
No modern polishing
Authentic surface micro-erosion
A genuine excavated appearance consistent with ancient use.
