This lot consists of a set of two studio ceramic vases created by the same Japanese ceramic artist, both accompanied by their original signed wooden storage boxes (tomobako). Each vase features natural glaze variations created during the firing process, displaying subtle tonal transitions on the surface ranging from earthy brown to deep green. One vase has a softly cylindrical form with an organic texture reminiscent of weathered tree bark, while the other showcases a distinctive appearance characterized by contrasting color variations formed by flowing glaze effects. The crackle-like patterns visible on the surface are decorative kannyu (intentional glaze crackle) produced during the production process and are not defects or structural damage. These natural irregularities and kiln effects (yohen) are characteristic elements found in traditional Japanese ceramic aesthetics and reflect the influence of the Mingei (Japanese folk craft) philosophy. Both pieces are glazed on the interior, making them suitable for practical use as ikebana flower vessels, while also serving as sculptural decorative objects. Each vase bears the artist’s seal on the base. ⸻ ■ Approximate Dimensions Vase 1 Height: approx. 21 cm Mouth diameter: approx. 6.5 cm Base diameter: approx. 8 cm Vase 2 Height: approx. 23 cm Mouth diameter: approx. 6.5 cm Base diameter: approx. 8 cm Please allow for slight measurement discrepancies. ⸻ ■ Condition Minor glaze variations, firing marks, and small surface irregularities may be present due to the handmade production process and age; these are characteristic of studio pottery. No noticeable cracks or structural damage were observed. Please refer to the photographs for detailed condition.
