Description
This is a ceramic vase by Kaoru Ohara (大原薫, b.1939), a Shigaraki artist from Shiga Prefecture, Japan.
Ohara is officially recognized as a Holder of Intangible Cultural Property by Koka City, and is known for his bold and expressive ceramic techniques
His work is characterized by dynamic surface treatment combining comb patterns, paddling textures, and layered glaze applications
This vase demonstrates his expressive approach through:
Rich, flowing blue glaze with natural tonal variation
Textured surface structure
Elegant gold accents enhancing visual depth

Unlike his well-known red “flame” works, this piece expresses a cooler yet equally powerful aesthetic through layered glazing and surface movement.
The vase comes with its original signed wooden tomobako (storage box).
