Rare & Heavy Victorian Bronze Medal - Salvator Mundi - Allen & Moore - 140g / 63mm - 1850s
Object:
Exceptionally heavy British Commemorative Medal.
Designer:
Ary Scheffer (design), minted by Allen & Moore (Birmingham).
Obverse:
High-relief facing portrait of Christ as "Salvator Mundi" (Saviour of the World).
Reverse:
Elaborate scene titled "Christus Consolator", depicting Christ comforting the suffering, including a slave, a prisoner, and the sick. Based on Scheffer's 1837 masterpiece.
Technical Details:
Diameter 63 mm, weight 140 g. This is a remarkably thick and heavy strike (piedfort-style), allowing for incredible depth and detail in the relief.
Material:
Bronze with a beautiful, original chocolate-brown patina.
Period:
Approx. 1850–1855 (High Victorian Era).
Condition:
Very Good / Excellent. Sharp details on the "Allen & Moore" signature and the "Consolator" inscription. No signs of cleaning or rim damage.
