The bezel is gently domed and almond-shaped, engraved with a simple linear Latin “A,” likely representing the initial of the original owner. Such rings functioned as personal signets and could be pressed into wax or clay to mark documents, goods, or property. The hoop is slender and slightly tapering, with a smooth inner surface and natural wear consistent with prolonged ancient use. The ring has developed a stable dark green and brown archaeological patina with lighter areas where surface deposits have worn, revealing the bronze beneath. The engraving is clear but softened by age, further supporting authenticity. Historical Context Personal initial rings were common throughout the Late Roman and Early Byzantine periods. Unlike elaborate gemstone signets, simpler bronze examples were worn by civilians, tradesmen, and lower-ranking officials.
