A large Chinese blue and white, famille rose and gilt porcelain 'Hagia Sophia' tureen made for Ottoman market. China, Qing dynasty (大清), early Qianlong (1735-1796, 乾隆) period, mid 18th century. Very rare, I found only plates and charges with this decor. Finely potted in oval shape, body with round walls and two big handles. Superbly painted to the exterior with Hagia Sophia mosque in Istambul, lady on boat, bird flying above the building, ducks, fish (or sea-creature), pierced rock-work and oversize flowering peony. Details highlighted with gilding. Band of blue spear-heads above the foot. Cover with a wide band with flowers, scrolls with swirls and diaper pattern, pink and yellow flowers, Ruyi heads, followed by a narrow band with gilt geometrical pattern on iron red ground and Ruyi heads.
