The figures are often shown wearing official robes, rank badges (mandarin squares), and official hats, indicating their social standing or the rank they held in the imperial bureaucracy. These portraits are characterized by a formal, frontal orientation and a stiff, symmetrical pose to convey solemnity and dignity. The portrait shows numerous signs of damage, including occasional loss of pigment, visible paper creases, tears, and craquelure.
