Fossil Ammonite Dactylioceras commune – Holzmaden, Germany – Jurassic (Toarcian)
A beautiful fossil ammonite preserved on a natural shale slab from the renowned Holzmaden locality in southern Germany, one of the most famous fossil sites in the world. The formation belongs to the Posidonia Shale (Lower Jurassic, Toarcian stage), dating to approximately 182 million years ago.
The specimen shows a well-defined Dactylioceras commune, partially exposed within the matrix, with the characteristic ribbed spiral structure clearly visible. The ammonite emerges naturally from the stone, giving the piece an authentic and geological appearance typical of Holzmaden fossils.
The surrounding slab retains its natural texture and colour variations, with subtle mineral tones and sedimentary patterns that enhance the overall visual appeal. This contrast between the fossil and the pale shale matrix creates a refined and elegant presentation.
Holzmaden fossils are internationally appreciated for their exceptional preservation and historical importance, making them highly desirable among collectors of Jurassic marine life.
A clean, aesthetic specimen that combines scientific interest with decorative value, suitable for both fossil collectors and natural history displays.
Stand included (as shown in the photographs).
