龙纹浮雕装饰盘—铸金属—日本,明治至昭和时期 - 合金 - 日本 - 明治時期(1868-1912)

Decorative Japanese Cast Metal Dish with Expressive Relief, Possibly Depicting a Dragon – Japan, late Meiji to early Shōwa period This decorative Japanese cast metal dish features a highly expressive relief composition with flowing, dynamic forms and deep sculptural modeling. The overall design suggests a powerful mythological presence emerging from swirling cloud-like patterns, a visual language commonly associated with dragon imagery in Japanese decorative arts. Rather than a literal or anatomically precise depiction, the motif is intentionally abstracted. Elements that resemble a torso, flowing mane-like forms, and layered textures evoke movement and vitality, allowing the viewer to interpret the figure in multiple ways. From certain angles, the relief recalls parts of a dragon’s body—such as the chest or belly—while other areas dissolve into cloud and energy motifs. The dish was produced using a casting technique, resulting in pronounced relief, organic irregularities, and a strong tactile presence. Its surface displays a richly aged patina, combining deep dark tones with areas of warm reddish-brown oxidation that have developed naturally over time. The reverse side bears a stamped mark. The dish is accompanied by a wooden storage box, the interior of which is inscribed “Jinkō (仁光)”, likely referring to a former owner or collection name rather than the maker. A modern plastic display stand is included for presentation.
