Refined large wooden Fubako designed with rare beautiful flower/camellia maki-e on lid by excellent workmanship. Artist: Seiki征木 Aizu lacquerware is characterized by its auspicious designs and the beauty of its diverse decorations. Furthermore, the grooves are carved more finely and shallowly than those found in lacquerware from other regions, giving the decorations a soft appearance. Top coats are applied using techniques such as "iron rust lacquering," which uses rust lacquer to give the piece a subdued, cast-iron look, and "kinmushi lacquering," which creates patterns using rice husks. Other top coat techniques include "kijironuri," which brings out the beauty of the wood grain, and "hananuri," which adds oil to create a glossy finish, each requiring advanced skill. Aizu lacquerware's signature decoration technique is "keshifun makie," in which a brush is saturated with lacquer, and then, while monitoring the drying process, the finest gold powder is sprinkled on with cotton wool.
