Volcanic Soul — 日本織部宝石釉雕塑花道花瓶 - 陶瓷 - 日本 - 21世紀

Item Description This striking ceramic flower vase is a work by an unidentified contemporary Japanese studio potter, as indicated by an indecipherable incised signature on the base. The piece is a bold and sculptural expression of the wabi aesthetic taken to its most raw and visceral extreme — a form that appears almost geological in origin, as though shaped by volcanic forces rather than human hands. The surface is a tour de force of high-fire glazing in the Oribe (織部) tradition. The dominant copper-green glaze — made from plant ash, feldspar, and copper oxide and fired at extreme temperatures exceeding 1220°C — achieves the translucent, watery luminosity that is the hallmark of the finest Oribe work. This deep, jewel-like green shifts and varies across the surface: pooling darkly in the crevices, breaking to pale olive and yellow-ochre on the raised ridges, and bleeding into unexpected patches of blush pink, iron-red, and deep charcoal black where the glaze chemistry responded to variations in the clay body and kiln atmosphere. In certain areas, the glaze reaches an almost glass-like glossiness; in others, it settles into a rich, satin depth. Perhaps most remarkable are the large feldspathic crystals deliberately incorporated into the clay body. These coarse, angular fragments protrude through and beneath the glaze layer, creating a landscape of erupting forms across the surface. Where they emerge, the glaze breaks around them in halos of contrasting color — creamy whites, opalescent greys, and rust — producing a natural mosaic of extraordinary complexity. The glaze drips and flows across the deeply undulating surface in unpredictable rivulets, each face of the vase presenting a completely different composition of color and texture. The vase's opening, formed organically at the top of this sculptural mass, is perfectly sized for ikebana or casual flower arrangements, as demonstrated in the accompanying image. The overall form transcends function — it stands as a sculptural object in its own right, evoking ancient stone, primordial nature, and the Japanese concept of mono no aware (the pathos of things). This is a rare and powerfully original work for collectors of contemporary Japanese ceramics or wabi-sabi aesthetics. Size Height: 10.0 cm Width: 12.0 cm Depth: 10.5 cm Weight 760 g Condition The piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs; all surface textures and glaze variations are entirely intentional characteristics of the artist's unique technique. Artist Profile The artist of this work remains unidentified; an incised signature is present on the base but is not currently legible. The piece demonstrates mastery of high-fire ceramic techniques, particularly in the control — and deliberate release of control — of Oribe-style glazes combined with coarse feldspar crystals. The work reflects the tradition of Japanese studio pottery that prizes individuality, raw materiality, and wabi-sabi sensibility over conventional refinement. NOITICE: The photos may show flowers, plants, pedestals, etc. as examples of decorations and interior design for illustrative purposes, but please note that these are not included in the product. The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by DHL , FedEx or Japan Post depend on the situation. It takes about 2 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to us and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. We do appreciate for your kind cooperation.

Item Description
This striking ceramic flower vase is a work by an unidentified contemporary Japanese studio potter, as indicated by an indecipherable incised signature on the base.
