Global Money Week – “From Barter to Banknotes” - Coin consolidation
This coin, struck under Khusro II (AD 591–628) of the Sasanian Empire, represents the silver drachm, the principal denomination of the Sasanian monetary system. Such coins circulated widely across Persia and neighbouring regions and played an important role in long-distance trade along routes connecting the Mediterranean, Central Asia, and India. Sasanian drachms were influential beyond their own empire, inspiring the design and weight standards of several early Islamic coinages.
Sasanian Empire, khusro II (590-628). AR Drachm 4.08 g. RY 10. AD. 599-600.
