→7.5 cm long Basilosaurus canine fossil It is very nice canine teeth fossil of Basilosaurus from the late Eocene Epoch, from about 41.3 to 33.9 million years ago. The canine had a short crown compared to the front incisors because canines were necessary to hold firm into struggling prey while at the same time delivering crushing and fatal bites to its prey e.g. Durodon. The presented fossil is basically complete from tip to the end of the root with light colored fossilization of the root and light brown color fossilization of the crown of the teeth. The teeth has nice curved profile with good pointed tip. There is cool fossilization chemistry which can be seen from the presence of small random white marks which are attributed to plant roots interacting with the fossils over prolong duration of fossilization process. It likely, the teeth of Basilosaurus would be similar in color to modern day Orcas whose teeth are milk-creamy in color. The teeth has been professionally conserved and it seems to be minorly restored at the crown. We would like to emphasize that the teeth can belong to other Basilosauridae family member like Durodon or Zygorhiza. Please refer to photos for reference of this marvellous whale fossil.
