Beautiful old and well-used dancing staff, used in traditional ceremonies in the Dogon community of central Mali. These staffs represent authority and dancing with it affirms again the dancers standing in the village. Very nice patina, due to its long and intense use.. This staff could be very old, regarding its black patina on top. Often these important items were stored in small ancestral huts; the "Ginna". This staff was collected in the village of Tirelli in the late 1990,s and comes from a private Dutch collection. Hight.; 66 cm. On steel socle.
