A piece from a collection representing the tradition and quality of Swiss watchmaking. A truly rare and desirable collector’s item.
The watch features a very nice dial with elegant indexes and beautiful hands. The case has a steel caseback. The signed mechanical movement is working and doing its job. Size: 50 mm measured without the crown.
The history of Marvin dates back to 1850 when brothers Marc and Emmanuel Didisheim founded a watchmaking workshop in St-Imier in the Swiss Jura region. Thanks to the quality of their movements and the dynamic expansion of their distribution network, the company quickly grew.
At the beginning of the 20th century the brand adopted the name Marvin, inspired by an American partner who admired their pocket watches. The brand’s symbol became the three-point crown representing an inverted “M”.
During the first half of the 20th century Marvin became a well-known Swiss brand worldwide. Millions of watches were produced, and many models became favorites among collectors. The Didisheim family led the company for four generations, always focusing on quality, precision, and innovation.
Marvin movements gained an excellent reputation and were even used by other leading watch brands. The company was also commissioned to create watches for airlines such as KLM and Air France.
Several famous personalities were known to wear Marvin watches, including legendary racing drivers Alberto Ascari, Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio.
The brand also has an interesting connection to Hungary. During the communist era, three Swiss watch brands were more widely available in the country: Marvin, Doxa and Cornavin. Among them, Doxa became the most widespread because it won a tender to supply watches for Hungarian railway officials.
Marvin built its reputation mainly on reliability, precision and elegant design.
A historical curiosity related to the brand is that the famous revolutionary Che Guevara owned a Marvin watch. He purchased it during his studies in the United States and it can be seen in several photographs of him. The watch is now displayed in the mausoleum in Santa Clara.
Marvin also used special trade names on certain markets. One of these was “Nivram”, which is simply the name Marvin written backwards. It was mainly used for the American market during the mid-20th century.
Today Nivram watches are considered rare and interesting collector’s pieces because they represent a unique chapter in Swiss watchmaking history.
This beautiful Marvin watch is a true vintage timepiece reflecting the charm of classic Swiss watchmaking. A great piece for collectors and also perfectly suitable for wearing. The pictures speak for themselves.
