Large Antique Victorian Grand Tour High-Relief Agate Cameo Brooch – Roman Chariot Scene

An impressive and unusually large antique Victorian cameo brooch featuring a beautifully carved natural agate plaque depicting a dramatic Roman chariot scene. The finely executed carving is rendered in high relief, showing a powerful chariot and horses in motion, capturing the energy and grandeur associated with Roman spectacle and classical antiquity.

Scenes of chariot races were among the most celebrated entertainments of the Roman world, particularly in arenas such as the Circus Maximus. Such imagery was also popular during the 19th century Grand Tour revival, when classical themes inspired jewellery and decorative arts throughout Europe. Carved agate cameos depicting scenes from Roman life were highly sought after souvenirs and collector’s pieces during this period.
