A very rare and unusual large fan for the period, ca 1830. After the turmoil in Europe and still after that in France, fans became smaller. The search for the beauty in fans from before the revolution was high. Therefore this example has a double leaf of chicken skin with a fashionable domestic scene in a park, while the bone monture has the measurements and style for fans of the late 18th century. Also the thumbpiece in mother of pearl is a direction to early 18th century fans. Sticks and guards finely pierced and engraved with the engravings coverd with gold and silverfoil. The front guard is entirely original, the backguard seems to have a repair. The front leaf is handpainted and hightened with goldleaf details, while the back has sprigs in gold leaf. Considering the detailed paintings and gold leaf details an absolute high end fan in those days.
