L. Procilius is generally identified as the senator Procilius, who in 56 BC was condemned for misconduct. It is also believed that he may be the historian Procilius. Little is known of the Procilia gens, but it can be inferred from the choice of types that it came from Lanuvium, where the worship of Juno Sospita, also known as Lanuvina, originated.
