This is a traditional oshie-zaiku (padded cloth appliqué) craft inspired by the Kabuki dance "Asazuma." "Asazuma" refers to courtesans who entertained travelers on boats at the port of Asazuma on the eastern shore of Lake Biwa. The name was written as "浅妻" (Asazuma) through a play on words, combining the homophones asa meaning "shallow" (referring to a shallow, one-night vow of love) and asa meaning "morning."
It is an exquisite masterpiece, boasting a beautiful frame, exceptional quality in the padded cloth work, and stunning colors.
