Originating from the Tsugaru region (around Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture), Tsugaru lacquerware is celebrated for its durability and richly decorative surface. This style, also known as Kara-nuri, is created using a labor-intensive process of layering multiple coats of colored lacquer, which are then carefully polished to reveal intricate, organic patterns beneath. Each piece is unique, with no two patterns ever the same. The exterior displays the characteristic deep, textured mottled pattern, while the interior is finished in elegant vermilion lacquer, traditionally associated with protection, purity, and auspiciousness in Japanese culture. The base is finished in black lacquer. Originally used for serving food during special occasions and seasonal celebrations, jubako boxes symbolize hospitality and refinement in Japanese dining culture. Fair antique condition with notable age-related wear. There are structural cracks and repairs, particularly along edges and corners. Surface wear, small chips, lacquer cracks, and losses are present throughout. The tray shows damage and wear along the rim. The wooden storage box shows cracks, stains, age wear, and the lid bears an inscription of a former owner. Please refer carefully to the photos. Dimensions of Tray: approx. H 3.3 cm W 25.7 cm D 25.7 cm Dimensions of Juboko: approx. H 12.8 cm W 19.7 cm D 18.7 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos.
