花瓶 - 瓷器, 大约150-200年前的极为罕见的花瓶,描绘了日本的古地图,属于 Ko-Imari ware 古伊万里焼。 - Seizan 栖山 - 日本 - 19世纪

This very rare vase is made of Ko-Imari ware and features an old map of Japan. The author is Seizan 栖山. A distinctive Japanese porcelain vase decorated with a detailed map of Japan rendered in traditional blue underglaze. This vase was made approximately 150 to 200 years ago. The surface of the vase is covered with a stylized map depicting the historical provinces of Japan, written in classical place names rather than modern prefectures. These provincial names were used in Japan for centuries prior to the modern administrative system introduced in the late 19th century. For example, areas corresponding to modern cities are labeled with their historical provincial names. Tokyo appears as Ueno 上野, Osaka as Settsu 摂津, and Izumi 和泉, reflecting the geographical terminology used in earlier periods of Japanese history. The map is surrounded by decorative wave motifs, evoking the seas surrounding the Japanese archipelago. On the base of the vase appears the inscription 「天保年製」 (Tenpō Nen Sei), meaning “Made in the Tenpō era.” The Tenpō era belongs to the late Edo period (1830–1844), suggesting that the piece follows the style or tradition associated with that time. Based on its design and craftsmanship, the vase is believed to have been produced approximately 150–200 years ago. The unusual cartographic decoration makes this vase particularly interesting, combining traditional Japanese ceramic artistry with historical geographical representation. Pieces depicting maps of the old provincial system are relatively uncommon and provide insight into how Japan’s regions were historically understood and represented. An attractive and historically evocative piece that reflects both Japanese ceramic craftsmanship and the historical geography of Japan.
