Carved by Fujii Yoshiro, this Bicchu Kagura wooden mask represents Inashihagi no Mikoto, the envoy who, under the command of Ōkuninushi, located Kotoshironushi and secured the peaceful transfer of the land in the Izumo myth cycle. The sharply drawn brows, focused gaze, and firm mouth convey the tension and resolve of a divine messenger whose role hinges not on force but on duty, clarity, and decisive action. Fujii’s carving style—marked by deep cuts, taut facial planes, and a sense of contained urgency—emphasizes the seriousness of the moment in which Inashihagi acts. The textured hair elements and bold coloration enhance the mask’s ritual presence, grounding it in the dramatic vocabulary of Bicchu Kagura.
