This is a striking flower vase by Yohei Konishi, a master ceramic artist from Tokoname. Konishi is recognized as an Intangible Cultural Property Holder of Tokoname City and an Aichi Prefecture “Master of Craft” (Aichi no Meikō). Born in Tokoname in 1941, he is the son of renowned teapot craftsman Yusen Konishi. From an early age, he was involved in teapot production within the family workshop. Although he inherited this tradition, he chose not to take the name “Yusen,” instead establishing his own identity under the name Yohei. Konishi is known for his philosophy of never repeating the same design. While traditional teapot production often involves creating identical pieces, he deliberately avoids duplication, ensuring that each work is entirely unique. This piece reflects both deep-rooted tradition and a highly individual artistic vision. The rounded body is carefully faceted, creating a sculptural presence that interacts beautifully with light. Across its surface runs a mesmerizing pattern of concentric rings in earthy tones with subtle reddish accents, giving the piece depth and quiet movement.
