A very early , ca 1800, Canton fan.
Exquisitly carved on both sides.
In 1800 Canton was the Chinese center for European trade. These fans were exclusively made for the Western export market.
Their extremely fine and skillful carvings were highly estimated in the west and therefore utter status symbols.
Note missing parts.
Comes with two later Chinese fans, see photos.
