A very large kakejiku 掛け軸 (hanging scroll), featuring a refined painting of samurai in full armour. At the centre, seated atop a broad yoroi’bitsu 鎧櫃 (armour storage box), is the famed commander Minamoto no Yoshitsune 源義経 (c. 1159–1189), flanked by two retainers—one seated on the ground at his right, and the other standing behind him. Yoshitsune is depicted in full armour with a black lacquered cuirass laced in red, a pair of swords at his side, a longbow in one hand, and a partially opened war fan in the other. The backdrop features a multi-coloured battle curtain decorated with a repeated mokkô 木瓜 (quince flower) crest pattern.
