Eduard Zentsik - Boys

Eduard Zentsik (Estonia, b. 1975) Title: Boys Year: 2019 Medium: Oil and mixed media on canvas Dimensions 100 × 70 × 2 cm (height × width × depth) – canvas size. The painting is stretched on a wooden stretcher and ready to hang. Signature Signed on the front with the artist’s monogram “ZED”. The artwork is also titled, dated and signed by the artist on the reverse of the canvas. Description “Boys” is an original contemporary figurative painting exploring themes of identity, anonymity and collective presence. The composition presents a dense group of human figures standing closely together, their bodies merging into a single vertical mass. Individual features are partially dissolved, creating a tension between the collective and the individual. The figures appear both unified and isolated, suggesting a fragile balance between belonging and loss of identity. Vertical drips of deep red paint run across the surface, introducing a strong emotional and symbolic layer. These marks can be interpreted in multiple ways — as traces of vulnerability, memory, or the invisible weight carried by the group. The contrast between the soft, blurred bodies and the sharp, gravity-driven drips creates a powerful visual conflict. Executed in oil and mixed media, the work is built through layered textures, soft transitions and controlled erosion of form. The restrained palette of flesh tones, greys and muted shadows enhances the psychological intensity while maintaining a quiet, almost meditative surface. Rather than telling a direct story, the painting operates as a psychological field. The viewer is confronted with a presence that is both human and abstract — a collective body shaped by tension, silence and shared experience. Artist background Eduard Zentsik is a contemporary figurative artist working with painting, photography, installation and performance. His practice focuses on symbolic imagery and psychological presence, often combining elements of classical aesthetics with a contemporary visual language. His artworks are held in private collections across Europe and the United States. Provenance Directly from the artist’s studio.
