Tsuri’daiko 釣り太鼓(悬挂在宫廷或神社的鼓) - 木, 皮革, 金属、漆 - 日本 - 明治時期(1868-1912)
A large lacquered tsuri’daiko 釣り太鼓 (hanging court or shrine drum).
The circular frame is adorned with a gilded metal flame featuring an intricate openwork design of swirling clouds, with three raised ‘precious jewels’ 宝珠 (hôju) at its centre.
The drum (taiko) is suspended within the frame and showcases a striking polychrome painted design of a sinuous dragon clutching a precious pearl in its claws. The drum skins are secured with a double row of dome-shaped rivets on a gilt lacquered wooden body. When struck, the drum produces a strong and resonant deep sound.
The frame and post are lacquered in black with gilt rims, accented by stylized flame ornaments. The post transitions into four elegantly curved ‘warabite’-shaped feet. Both the frame and feet are detachable, and the drum itself can also be removed from the frame for convenient storage and transport. The drum is accompanied by a pair of black lacquered wooden bachi 撥 (strikers).
Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868-1912).

Height 130 cm, Width 64 cm, Depth 58 cm.
