Measuring an impressive 50 cm in length, this pipe is approximately twice as long as a standard Kiseru (typically around 25 cm). Cultural Context of the Long Kiseru: In the Edo period, exceptionally long pipes were known as "Zashiki-Kiseru" (Indoor Pipes). They were favored by high-ranking courtesans (Oiran), kabuki actors, and samurai as a symbol of status and "Mie" (conspicuous display). For samurai, a long, sturdy pipe could even serve as a secondary means of self-defense. The Benefit of Length: Beyond its visual impact, the extraordinary length of the "Rau" (the bamboo middle section) serves a practical purpose: as the tobacco smoke travels through the long tube, it cools down significantly before reaching the mouth, resulting in a much smoother and milder flavor compared to shorter pipes.
