Sakura symbolizes the fleeting nature of beauty and life in Japanese culture, making it a deeply poetic and appropriate motif for tea ceremony objects. Maki-e is a traditional Japanese decorative technique in which gold or silver powder is sprinkled onto wet lacquer to create intricate and refined designs. The piece bears a mark on the underside, and the original wooden box is inscribed. It comes with an old shifuku silk pouch and storage box. It is in antique condition with age-related wear. There are scuffs, small scratches, areas of lacquer loss, minor insect holes, a few small cracks, discoloration, deterioration to the cord, and general signs of use.
