Lot of Two Lao Buddha Figures:

1. Lao Bronze Seated Buddha

Hand-Cast – 19 cm – Antique
19th Century or earlier

Elegant antique Lao bronze Buddha dating to the 19th century ore earlier, depicted seated in meditation on a tiered pedestal base. This exceptional figure, with elements of royal attire, displays classic Lao stylistic features, including a slender, elongated body, serene facial expression, and a prominent flame-like ushnisha rising from the crown.

The Buddha is shown in a traditional seated posture with one hand lowered toward the base and the other resting in the lap, suggestive of a meditative or earth-touching gesture. The hair is rendered in small, tightly defined curls, and the ears are elongated in accordance with Buddhist iconography. Subtle incised detailing is visible along the chest and base.

The surface shows a naturally aged bronze patina with areas of wear and encrustation, consistent with age and devotional use. The underside reveals the original casting cavity, typical of hand-cast Southeast Asian lost-wax bronzes of this period.

Condition:
The base shows partial damage, causing the figure to stand slightly tilted, though it remains stable. A custom-made stand would enhance presentation (not included). General surface wear and age-related loss and marks present (see photos).

2. Lao Bronze Seated Buddha

Early 20th Century or earlier

Authentic early 20th century Lao or Northern Thai Buddha figure cast in bronze, depicting a serene seated figure in meditation. The Buddha is shown on a simple rectangular base, with hands resting in a calm meditative gesture.

The figure features classic Southeast Asian characteristics, including elongated earlobes, a gentle facial expression, and a distinctive flame-like ushnisha (finial).

The surface shows a naturally aged patina with original pigment or gilding, including red and gold tones, adding depth and character. Wear and surface variations are consistent with age and devotional use.
