The Finnish Medal of the Order of the Cross of Liberty (1918) is a military award established on March 4, 1918, by Mannerheim for participants in the Civil War. The medals (1st silver and 2nd bronze classes) were awarded for bravery. The obverse features a lion with a sword and the inscription "1918," while the reverse bears "SUOMEN KANSALTA" (From the people of Finland).
Main characteristics and varieties:
Instituted: March 4, 1918, at the initiative of G. Mannerheim to award soldiers who fought on the White side. (For the White Guards against the Bolsheviks led by V.I. Lenin).
