A small collection of 10 Mamuli from Sumba Indonesia and two wood fasteners. The Mamuli, worn as an ear-hanger or pendant, was a commonly worn jewelry on Sumba island. the The ornaments have a shape which represents the female genitalia, symbolizing the woman as the giver of life.
The wooden fastenes was used to tighten a belt or rope clothing piece.
Collected in the 1970's to '80's. Estimated age: early 20th century
The Mamuli hangers range from 4 to 7 cm in length. The fasteners are 7cm and 5 cm in length. See pictures
