Coin Story:
This coin belongs to the Uniform Coinage period of British India (1938–1945) under King George VI, who ascended the throne in 1936. His portrait coins began in 1938.
The 1 Rupee series was issued during World War II (1939–1945), when Britain heavily minted silver coins in India to support colonial economy and wartime expenses. Due to wartime silver shortages and price fluctuations, fineness dropped from 0.917 to 0.500 starting in 1940, making 1941 one of the early years in this reduced-silver series. The obverse features George VI facing left with the legend "GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR," symbolizing British imperial rule over India. The reverse shows the denomination "ONE RUPEE" flanked by lotus flowers and rice ears, topped by a crown.
This coin reflects the late colonial era, wartime economics, and the transition toward India's 1947 independence, carrying strong historical value in colonial and WWII numismatic contexts.
