Item Description: 西本直文 Nishimoto Naofumi(1965- ) This exquisite lidded ceramic box (hakō) is a masterwork of Geishu-yaki (Hiroshima-region) ceramics, created by acclaimed contemporary ceramic artist Nishimoto Naofumi. The piece showcases his celebrated original technique known as Jūnihitoe Yūsai — a multi-layered glaze firing method inspired by the twelve-layered court robes (jūnihitoe) of Heian-era aristocratic women. He debuted at the prestigious Japan Fine Arts Exhibition (Nitten) in 1988 and has exhibited continuously since. His international exhibition career has brought his work to prestigious venues abroad, and he has received multiple international awards in recognition of his distinctive glaze work.
