茶葉盒 - 木, Urushi - Sakura & Momiji Natsume

Title: Japanese Wood-Grain Lacquer Makie Natsume Tea Caddy with Sakura & Momiji Motif Dimensions: H. 6.2 cm × Max. Dia. 6.5 cm (2.4 × 2.6 in) Weight: 47.6 g (w/o pouch) Material: Wood body, urushi lacquer, makie Period: Japanese Showa Period (c. 1960s–1970s) This is an elegant traditional Japanese wood-grain lacquer makie natsume tea caddy with sakura (cherry blossom) and momiji (maple leaf) motif, a classic tea utensil for storing matcha powder, complete with its original cloth pouch (shifuku / 仕覆). Crafted from a natural solid wood body, it features a kiji-nuri (木地涂) finish that preserves the warm texture and distinct grain of the wood. The exterior is coated in a deep brown transparent lacquer, which both protects the wood and enhances the clarity of the grain. The rim is accented with a delicate gold line, showcasing fine craftsmanship. The interior is finished in solid black lacquer to effectively block moisture and protect the tea powder. The surface is decorated using the traditional Japanese makie (莳绘) technique, with gold powder applied to create flowing, delicate lines with a soft, lustrous sheen—characteristic of classic Japanese lacquerware. The body and lid are adorned with the classic tea ceremony motif of cherry blossoms and maple leaves (桜と紅葉). Cherry blossoms symbolize spring, while maple leaves represent autumn, linked by flowing water lines to evoke the passage of seasons. This design reflects the Japanese aesthetic concept of ichigo ichie (一期一会), emphasizing the beauty of impermanence. The water lines, rendered in gold, create a dynamic sense of blossoms and leaves drifting on a stream, making it a beloved and elegant motif in tea ceremony culture. The caddy comes with its original matching shifuku (仕覆), crafted from traditional Nishijin brocade with an elegant color scheme. It is a standard accessory for high-quality tea utensils, used to store and protect the natsume. With age, the centre of the red maple leaf motif on the lid shows wear consistent with the loss of an original inlaid element. The lacquer surface displays only very minor signs of use, and the textile pouch also shows natural ageing. Overall in good condition. Due to service suspension, Taiwan Post EMS has suspended parcel delivery to the following countries starting March 10, 2026: United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Israel, Pakistan, Maldives, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Greece, Egypt, Morocco.
