Item Description A boldly expressive Japanese matcha tea bowl (chawan) in the Mino ware (Mino-yaki) tradition, decorated in a vivid tricolour (sansai) glaze with a striking raised double-ring (wa) motif in relief. This is a tea bowl that commands attention. The cylindrical body — slightly squared at the rim in the manner of Oribe ware — is enveloped in a dramatic composition of horizontal bands and washes: deep cobalt blue, golden yellow, dusty crimson, and charcoal black, all pooling and overlapping freely against each other in a manner that recalls both abstract expressionist painting and the ancient three-colour lead glazes of Tang dynasty China.
