Sewa Ram - Revolutionary poster - 1940年代
A fine example of Bazaar art, a revolutionary poster measuring circa 35,5 x 34,8cm, framed behind glass in a wooden frame for an outside size of circa 39 x 38cm.
The poster depicts a powerful patriotic composition centering on Shaheed Bhagat Singh (center), flanked by legendary warriors Maharana Pratap and Chatrapati Shvaji Maharaj (right). Signed Sewa Ram, and the place of creation is marked as Meerut, a city with a deep history of revolutionary and commemorative art.
The text reads: "May my life not remain, may my head not remain, may my possessions and these instruments not remain. Only let India remain free, let it be free: that is the crown upon my head.
It is a famous quote by Saheed Bhagat Singh.
The poster is a political statement, a call to revolution against the British colonial rule of the time and as such should be dated around or just after 1947.
Condition: Some age damages to the paper and frame, see pictures for details.
This lot will be carefully packaged and sent by registered and insured mail.
