A Bronze Age arrowhead featuring a leaf-shaped blade with two long, downwards-pointed barbs which reach the stem end. The blade tapers gently from the barbs to a rounded point. A subtle central midrib leads to a short, cylindrical stem and a long tang. The piece is covered in a beautiful patina along with some earthly encrustation. Signs of wear consistent with age, including scratches to the surface and some chipping to the edges of the blade and tang. The tang is bent, with a corresponding crack to one side.
In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites settled in the Western Asiatic region. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of these bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Most of these bronze items have been recovered in funerary contexts.
