Produced in Japan during the Showa period, it faithfully follows Edo-period construction and design, and was crafted by skilled armour artisans as a high-quality, wearable reproduction. The helmet is a black lacquered suji kabuto with pronounced ridges, fitted with striking brass kuwagata antlers and a central sun-disc crest. The accompanying menpo face mask is modelled in a fierce expression, designed to intimidate opponents, and is finished in black lacquer with a contrasting white moustache, enhancing its dramatic presence. The cuirass is of okegawa construction, characterised by horizontal iron plates, and is decorated with an elegant gold agemaki knot at the chest. The armour is laced in a refined dan-odoshi style, combining deep blue, white, ochre, and orange tones, creating a rich layered appearance typical of samurai aesthetics. Textile elements such as the arm guards and thigh protection are backed with finely woven brocade featuring floral motifs in warm orange and gold tones, adding both visual richness and historical authenticity. The full set includes matching arm guards, thigh guards, and shin guards, all harmonised in design with the helmet and cuirass. Also included are the original black lacquered armour chest marked with the character “前”, a wooden assembly-type display stand, and a padded support cord worn around the waist to cushion and stabilise the armour. The armour remains in good vintage condition, showing light age-related wear such as minor fading to the fabric and slight surface oxidation to metal fittings, which contribute to its authentic character.
