A very rare and obscure Kokeshi, acquired from an old Japanese collector who lives in a village in Gifu prefecture. It has a very serene facial expression which goes well with the shining red body with hand painted bamboo motif. Very special about this doll is the poem, in golden writing, by Kenji Miyazawa named Ame nimo Makezu. In the Japanese tradition, bamboo ( take – たけ) never losing its leaves, is a symbol of strength, tenacity and resistance because, even if it bends with the wind and the weather, it never breaks. The artist signature can be seen on the bottom side. It is a mesmerizing piece of Japanese craftsmanship and can be observed for hours.
