E-karatsu 抹茶茶碗 - 陶瓷 - 7th-generation Souzan Eguchi (七代 江口宗山) - 日本 - 昭和年代(1926-1989)
Description:
A Karatsu ware matcha tea bowl in the E-karatsu style, made by seventh-generation Souzan Eguchi of Taikō Sannomaru Kiln.
The bowl is decorated with bold iron-painted brushwork over a warm beige Karatsu clay body. The design has a spontaneous and expressive quality, characteristic of E-karatsu ware, while the softly running white glaze from the rim adds a beautiful sense of movement and contrast. The surface shows a pleasant rough texture and natural kiln character, giving the piece a rustic yet refined presence.
The form is well balanced, with a gently flaring rim and a stable foot. The interior has a warm, glossy glaze suitable for use as a matcha tea bowl, while the exterior retains the tactile charm of Karatsu clay. The foot is neatly finished, and the bowl has a calm, practical shape for tea ceremony use.
The piece comes with a signed tomobako wooden box. The inscription on the box identifies it as an E-karatsu tea bowl by seventh-generation Souzan. A leaflet for Taikō Sannomaru Kiln is also included.
