The name "Suiseki" comes from the fact that when water is poured over the stone in a water basin, its color deepens and it appears more beautiful. There is also a theory that it is an abbreviation of "Sansui-seki" or "Sansui-kei-seki." These were highly valued as decorations for tea rooms during the Japanese aristocratic and samurai eras, and were treasured as stones that evoked landscapes. This stone is beautiful and a unique masterpiece; it is believed that many decorative stones used before the Meiji era were landscape stones like this one.
