A Bronze Penannular Bracelet, Central / Northern Europe, circa 12th - 9th Century B.C. Beautiful open bronze bracelet (penannular type) crafted from a thick, rounded rod with finely incised herringbone and linear decoration along the body. The piece has an attractive dark green and grey patina with areas of lighter encrustation. The terminals are slightly tapered, allowing the bracelet to be easily slipped onto the wrist or arm. Bracelets of this form and decoration are characteristic of Late Bronze Age metalwork in Central and Northern Europe, associated with the early Hallstatt / proto-Celtic cultures. They served as important status symbols and items of personal adornment.
