Grande esemplare di conchiglia (Pinctada maxima) scolpita a mano da incisore della scuola napoletana del XIX secolo (Ottocento).
L'opera riproduce la "Madonna della Seggiola" (1513-1514) di Raffaello Sanzio, conservata nella Galleria Palatina di Palazzo Pitti a Firenze.
L'artigiano ha sfruttato la forma naturale e circolare del guscio, asportando lo strato scuro esterno per far emergere il candore traslucido della madreperla nel medaglione centrale. I dettagli dei volti della Vergine e del Bambino, i panneggi delle vesti e il montante intagliato della sedia camerale testimoniano l'alta qualità artistica della manifattura.
Si presenta in uno stato di conservazione generale molto buono, considerando l'epoca. Presenta le caratteristiche venature e variazioni cromatiche della madreperla naturale.

Large example of a conch shell (Pinctada maxima), hand-carved by an engraver of the 19th-century Italian school (Napoli).
The work reproduces Raffaello Sanzio "Madonna della Seggiola" (1513-1514), housed in the Galleria Palatina of Palazzo Pitti in Florence.
The craftsman exploited the natural, circular shape of the shell, removing the dark outer layer to reveal the translucent whiteness of the mother-of-pearl in the central medallion. The details of the faces of the Virgin and Child, the draperies of the robes, and the carved upright of the chair attest to the high artistic quality of the workmanship.
It is in very good overall condition considering its age.
It features the characteristic grain and chromatic variations of natural mother-of-pearl.
Please carefully examine the photo gallery, which is an integral part of the description, to appreciate the details and signs of aging. The two upper V-shaped incisions were presumably made for the suspension hooks.
