Old Pulteney 17 Year Old (discontinued in 2017) is a highly regarded Highland single malt known for its "maritime malt" character, balancing sweet vanilla and fruit with distinct saltiness. Tasting notes commonly include green apple, cream, sea salt, vanilla, waxy honey, and a long, gentle, spiced finish.

Tasting notes:

Nose: Soft, fruity, and sweet, with lemon curd, red berries, and ripe pears. This is balanced by signature maritime notes, such as sea salt, salt spray, and subtle waxy notes.

Palate: Creamy and smooth. Initial sweetness of vanilla, butterscotch, and honeyed porridge evolves into orchard fruits (apples, apricots) and dried fruits like raisins. This is framed by salt-rimmed glass, white pepper, and soft oak spices.

Finish: Long and warming. It dries gently with persistent notes of salty caramel, soft oak, and a hint of coastal brine.

Key Characteristics: Maritime Influence also known as "The Maritime Malt," this expression is famously briny and salty, reminiscent of its coastal location in Wick.
