賣家描述

Orthodox devotional icon with a central cross, very characteristic of the Russian tradition (probably 18th–19th century).

The composition is organized in the shape of a cross, with several key figures:

Center: the Crucifixion

In the central axis appears the crucified Christ, who structures the entire scene.
Below one usually sees the skull of Adam, symbol of humanity’s redemption.

Above the cross appears Christ in majesty or blessing, within an architectural space (sometimes symbolizing heaven or the altar).

To the sides, small busts of saints or angels.

Top left side: the Virgin with Child

It is a variant of the Eleousa Virgin (of tenderness), where Mary tilts her face toward the Child Jesus.

Top right side: Saint Nicholas
It is Saint Nicholas of Myra, one of the most venerated saints in the Orthodox world.
He is recognized by:
The Gospel in hand
The gesture of blessing
Episcopal vestments

Lower left part: holy king

Probably a Russian holy prince (such as Saint Alexander Nevsky or another holy monarch).
He is distinguished by the crown and noble attire.

Lower right part: holy queen or martyr
A crowned female saint, possibly:
Saint Catherine
Saint Helena
or a royal martyr

She holds a scroll (symbol of teaching or testimony).

This type of icon functions as an “icon of synthesis”:
The Cross as the center of salvation
The Virgin as intercessor
Saint Nicholas as protector
Saints royal as models of faith in the world
It is very typical of domestic Russian icons: bringing together in a single panel several important devotions.
